Become an expert forager with Adam Haritan!
Update for 9/15/17: We have added to the bottom of this page a map of Sleepy Hollow that shows where to go for check-in on the morning of the event. You will find the same map in the updated Event Guide, available for download at the link below.
Learn to appreciate Michigan wilderness in a whole new way as we explore the trails of Sleepy Hollow State Park and DeVries Nature Conservancy on the hunt for delicious and nutritious wild forage. Researcher, naturalist and expert forager Adam Haritan will lead the hikes. You can read his full bio and check out his work on his website, learnyourland.com, and his YouTube channel.
This event is a full day of activities. Participants will check in at Sleepy Hollow State Park at 8:45 am for the first guided hike (don't forget that a valid Recreation Passport is required to access Sleepy Hollow), then meet at DeVries Nature Conservancy for lunch and another guided hike. Lunch is provided by DeVries. The event will conclude at 2:30 with tincture/tea/cooking workshop titled "What to Do With the Goods"
This event takes place on Saturday, September 23rd; registration is required to attend and limited to 20 people. The cost to register is $65 dollars per person for non-members and $50 for members. Guest registrations are not allowed, so each participant must register individually. Check out the Event Guide for the full day's schedule, a list of things to bring and other important info. Remember that you don't have to bring a water bottle–at check-in all participants will receive a filled, reusable DeVries water bottle that is theirs to keep after the event!
